With the holiday season just around the corner, it’s time to get our wallets out and get shopping for gifts. It’s a fact that no matter what age a person is, most of us enjoy playing video games (at least that’s what we like to think). Sloth knows that nothing is better than to cozy up on a dark winter evening and play video games.
However, it can be a real hassle if you’re planning on buying some video games for your boyfriend, younger sibling or your kids. The choice is vast, and it’s no wonder that some minds go completely blank when it comes to choosing the right game for our loved ones. Well, you can put your mind to ease, because we have compiled a list of Top 10 most wanted and most anticipated Video games of 2017.
1. NieR: Automata
Not as new as some of the other games on the list, NieR: Automata is one of the most bizarre, sophisticated and mature games to hit the shelves in the last few years. Developed by Yoko Taro and Platinum Games, the creative pair has created a masterpiece. By combining dozens of sources like anime, history, war, etc. harmoniously together the team created a single most bizarre cohesive experience where none of the parts seem unnecessary. The game is set in a fictional distant future where a form of an extra-terrestrial source has unleashed its armies on the Earth. It’s up to our protagonist to reclaim and save the planet. Sounds plain but believe us, it’s pretty goddamn awesome!
2. The Evil Within 2
Though the Evil Within part 1 was definitely scary in its horror survival genre, it lacked a well-written storyline, and there was a lot of confusion in its character development. The sequel, however, has us pinned to our seats as it has a well-written plot with great characters and is doubling down on the spook element. Better than the first or not this sequel is bound to give you the most exhilarating and scary experience it was meant to give. The Evil Within 2 was released early October and is available on all major platforms.
3. Middle Earth – Shadow Of War
Three years ago Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor amazed and awe-inspired its players by introducing a unique “Nemesis system” which revolutionized the gaming world. Ever since then none of the major games have adopted the same format where systematically generated enemies develop alongside the protagonist providing a refreshing gaming experience and plot. Well, the series is back with a bang. This new feature provides everything the original did but on a larger scale, with the addition of major fortress battles, fostering rivalries by recruiting allies and its available on all major platforms. It’s time to slay some orcs and make a difference in Middle Earth!
4. Destiny 2
As Destiny’s first game taught us being a guardian can be quite close to a full-time job. We’re glad to state that Destiny 2 has that very same addicting replay value and then some more! To address the elephant in the room of the first game, the storytelling, it’s awesome to see Destiny 2 doing a helluva better job explaining its vast lore and the backgrounds of different places and characters. In addition to a quite captivating story, there’s also a nice selection of strikes, a raid and of course the Crucible for multiplayer experiences.
5. Super Mario Odyssey
This Nintendo Switch exclusive is must-have for everybody who has Access to Nintendo’s latest console. Why? First, because it’s Mario for heaven’s sake. Second, it’s one of the most enjoyable gaming experience of the year! Light-hearted humor, next to perfect gameplay, super colorful setting and a massive amount of content are just a few of the facts going on for Super Mario Odyssey. This polished jewel is Game of the Year for a lot of people all around the world, that’s for sure.
6. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
After the successful Wolfenstein: The New Order, the series is back and has us hooked to our controllers and keyboards. The New Colossus is set in a fictional Nazi-occupied America, where B.J. Blazkowicz (The protagonist) is a member of the thinned out American resistance against the occupiers. Available on all major platforms, the new Colossus lets the player mix and match various weapons, allowing the now legendary dual wielding. Lock and load and catch some Nazis!
7. Need for Speed Payback
Our old time favorite driving simulator is back with already twenty-third installment! This time the game has three playable characters – The Racer, The Showman and The Wheelman. So that’s pretty similar to GTA V where you played as Franklin, Michael and Trevor. Open world environment of NFS Payback is built for action driving so our three protagonists can show off their unique sets of skills. Of course, there’s also a story to tie together all those hours of driving around on the streets of Fortune Valley. You can’t miss with this title when picking a gift for a fan of driving games.
8. Call of Duty: WWII
Over the past several years Call of Duty franchise was fixed on progressively exploring futuristic battles; however, Sledgehammer Games have taken a bold step this year by going back to their roots with this latest addition to the franchise. Call of Duty WWII will let the players experience World War II in a more realistic environment, that means no jetpacks or 360 wall jumps to no scope headshots and mandatory teabagging. The players will have to rely on medics for regenerating health and are bound by the limitations of a World War 2 technology. The Game focuses mainly on the European Campaign during 1944-45 but is also expected to show us other significant events of the biggest war humanity has seen so far.
9. Star Wars Battlefront II
Star Wars Battlefront is back to bring joy to all the fans of the Star Wars universe. This time we have exquisite multiplayer as in the previous installment, but there’s also a gorgeous looking single-player campaign to be enjoyed. The story is set to take place 30 years after the destruction of the Death Star II and brings forward some never before seen storylines. Don’t worry, some of our favorite Star Wars characters like Luke Skywalker will be there also. Unfortunately, there have been some controversies with the microtransactions in Battlefront II. Sloth really hopes that EA and Dice will sort this mess out soon enough.
10. Assassin’s Creed Origins
After a minor break, Ubisoft is back with the latest edition to one of the most epic franchises in the gaming world. Assassin’s Creed Origins is prearranged in Ancient Egypt. As the name suggests is about the origins of how the Assassins came to be. The game keeps to its exhilarating historical action while introducing new eagle scouting ability for the protagonist. The developers have also completely renovated the combat system. Available on all platforms, this truly is the long-awaited facelift that the franchise was in dire need of.
That was our opinion on some of the best video games of 2017 which are guaranteed to bring joy to every gamer opening their present this year. Oh, and make sure your close one already doesn’t have the game before you buy it. Also, don’t buy the right game for the wrong console. That’s all folks! Sloth signing out.
