June 3 – National Egg Day
Here’s a challenge for you – have an egg for every meal of the day. Shouldn’t be too hard, though, because eggs happen to be one of the most versatile ingredients in the world. Thank god for chickens and their ability to lay eggs!
And if you don’t feel like eating the eggs, you can enjoy the legendary sports of summer camps all around the world – egg on a spoon run!
June 4 – National Cheese Day
Show us the person who doesn’t like cheese, and we show you a liar. Sloth’s menu for today: ham and cheese croissants for breakfast, pasta covered in parmesan for lunch, four cheese pizza for dinner and oven baked brie with a glass of wine for dessert. Sounds a bit cheesy, doesn’t it?
June 5 – National Ketchup Day
There are two kinds of people in the world – the ones who are willing to swear on hand on the bottle of ketchup and the ones who leave that bottle of ketchup in the supermarket. Sloth is in the Team Ketchup and firmly believes that every fridge in the world should house a bottle of the most famous tomato sauce in the world.
June 7 – National Chocolate Ice Cream Day
Scientists have proven that a bucket of chocolate ice cream can successfully get rid of depression, broken heart and wacky-tobacky induced violent bursts of hunger. Ok, there were no scientists involved, and our claim is based on romantic comedies and real-life observations. Still, there aren’t too many reasons why you shouldn’t flirt with some chocolate flavored ice cream on June 7th (or every day if you feel like it).
June 8 – National Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day
You know what is better than a regular boring doughnut? Take a wild guess! If you need a hint, here’s one: it rhymes with a belly filled :).
June 12 – International Falafel Day
On June 12th the world celebrates the existence of this cornerstone of Middle-Eastern cuisine. Feel free to eat those deep-fried chickpea balls between pita bread and don’t forget to add some pickled veggies and few (dozens) drops of hot sauce.
If breaded chickpea balls aren’t quite your cup of delicious snacks, you can dedicate this day to cookies, since it’s also National Peanut Butter Cookie Day.
June 15 – Lobster Day
We were at the beach
Everybody had matching towels
Somebody went under a dock
And there they saw a rock
It wasn’t a rock
It was a rock lobster
4 x Rock lobster…
Oh, and don’t forget to eat some lobster while rocking out to this B-52’s classic.
June 18 – International Picnic Day
A basket full of good food, a piece of cloth to sit on, some public real estate covered with grass, nice weather and great company. As you can see, not that much is needed to picnic the hell out of June 18. Don’t confuse this international holiday with National Picnic Day celebrated on April 23.
June 21 – National Peaches & Cream Day
Today, life is peachy. And creamy. As usual, there’s little to no difference how to enjoy your dessert, but Sloth’s treat involves some oven baking and cinnamon ;).
June 22 – National Onion Ring Day
Pub snacks are a guilty pleasure for most of us. Sloth is no different, especially when it comes to breaded or battered onion rings. The best part – they’re also pretty easy to make yourself in your kitchen!
Not the biggest fan of onions? No problem! There’s also National Chocolate Eclair Day taking place this very day.
June 26 – National Chocolate Pudding Day
Choco pudding, we salute you! It’s up to you if you try to make the pudding for yourself or you go for that mix straight from the shelves of your local supermarket. Sloth is lazy and probably goes with the latter :).
June 30 – National Mai Tai Day
Here’s to our favorite Polynesian-themed cocktail in the world! All you need to send June away in an exotic and a little boozy manner is some rum, Curaçao liqueur, orgeat syrup, and lime juice. If you like the drink in your glass, feel free to yell it out in Haitian: “Maita’i roa ae!” (“Out of this world!”)
Enjoy your June and keep that beach body in mind when thinking about those extra portions of all the good stuff listed here :).
